FAQs

How much is a tattoo going to cost at the event?

Flash tattoo prices for this event range from $100-$450 depending on size, color and detail wanted. The price (based on your choices) will be given to you by the tattoo artist before doing the tattoo. A percentage of every tattoo will be donated (from the shop cut, the tattoo artists will keep their regular percentage) to a local nonprofit The Portland Forest School a K-8th grade outdoor school where community, academics, and nature come together.

Can I get a black and grey or color tattoo?

Yes, at this tattoo event the tattoo artists will be doing black and grey or minimal color tattoos depending on your preference. The tattoo artists are willing to work on one client for 2 hours or less depending on the line of people waiting and the tattoo artist doing the tattoo work.

How long is the wait?

We can’t say for sure but with 7 tattoo artists and an average of one hour (2 at the most) per client, the line goes down pretty fast!

Can I choose my tattoo artist?

No. It is first come first served and all of the tattoo artists will be tattooing each other’s flash designs.

Can I get a tattoo anywhere on my body at this event?

Tattoos will generally be available on limited body parts (limbs and easily accessible areas) only at the individual tattoo artists discretion. If a tattoo artist has time and you want a tattoo on a harder to reach body part, it is possible but not guaranteed.

Will these flash tattoo concepts be available after this event?

Possibly, it depends on the tattoo artists who drew the flash piece. It is likely something you can book with them later, but it will be at their regular price. Generally if you come to the event and want something that isn’t offered at the event (such as you want the flash piece larger, more colorful, or on a harder to access body part) that can be booked for a future date.

What does a “flash tattoo” mean?

A flash tattoo sheet (in this case) is a page designed and drawn by our tattoo artists. Each page has several possible tattoo concepts on the one page. A flash tattoo is an already drawn design that is ready to be tattooed immediately and usually comes as you see them with no or limited changes. Flash tattoos can generally be tattooed any number of times on anyone who chooses that design.

Will my tattoo look like the pictures of the flash concepts?

That depends on how you want your tattoo. The tattoo flash can be done as line work only, with shading and/or with color options. Even though the design can’t be customized, the way it is tattooed with shading (and color or not) will create a more unique look.

Line work is the outline of the flash design.

Shading is what creates depth by blending black ink out to skin tone. A tattoo without shading looks more flat.

See below for examples of line work and shading.

Tattoo Designs Explained

When you come in to the tattoo shop for a flash tattoo event and choose a flash tattoo you might see the line work only, shaded version, or shaded with minimal color. All of the flash tattoo designs available on the event day can be done as line work, with shading and/or with minimal color. These examples are of the drawings with what those options look like as tattoo designs:
